Just by chance I discovered a fantastic developer for this project. The cart I will be using is called OsCommerce - which is a great open source system. However, there are a few quirks with it. For instance, when you checkout in Oscommerce you must first create an account and then complete the checkout process. As we all know every extra click increases the chance of loosing a sale.
So there is a contribution that my developer installed that allows users to checkout without creating an account. Seems simple enough. However, I need an account to be created for my subscription system that another developer is plugging in for me.
So during initial testing it appeared all was well. I could check out and it actually did create an account even though it appeared to the user it did not - I was HAPPY!
Once we loaded the site up to my server and could actually run some orders thru to completion we found out that this handy little plug-in actually deletes the account once the order is "completed" - I was SAD.
So my developer is currently rewriting huge chunks of code to make it work correctly. She is awesome! If you ever are in need of a good OSC developer be sure to check out Just Two Girls - they are amazing. Be sure and tell her HI for me.
The biggest problem is that she is still working on it. My subscription module developer is looking to start next week. Looks like I may need to hold him off a few days.
One more thing - I can typically look at a site and tell you if it is based on OsCommerce. However, the site Just Two Girls designed for me has no resemblance to OsCommerce, you would never know it was used as the platform. Which is a good thing, in case you were wondering.
