It seems these days everyone has a "secret" plan that will earn you millions overnight. So I thought you might be interested in one of my "secret" strategies. I am working on my pre-launch sequence for a new site this week. I thought you might be interested to know how I do this. This particular product is a public domain work, that I picked up as a part of a package from another internet marketer - Yanik Silver.
My strategy is to start building the list before the sales page is complete.
First I need to come up with some content for the "report" or "ecourse" that I will be giving away initially. What I usually do is either find 6-10 good reprint articles or I simply take a chapter from the actual product and divide it up into 6 or so chunks (this is the best option). I then build a web page for each part of the ecourse and host them on my site - with Adsense ads on the pages.
The rest of the sequence works like this. The visitor will click on my Adwords Ad, and land on my name squeeze page. Typically I am converting about 40% of the visitors into list members. The landing page is very simple - basically sells the ecourse with a bulleted list of "secret must have" items.
Once they subscribe they will get the first email in minutes. But first they land on a page thanking them for subscribing. On this page I also have a "one time offer" that sells for under $10. This is typically a digital product (ebook) that I have picked up on Ebay with resale rights, as well as a couple of bundles (free bonus items) of reprint articles that are tightly themed to my niche. YES, people will actually buy this offer!
They get the first email within minutes from my Aweber account. But the email does not have the entire article for the first part of the course. It only contains an introduction, and a simple link to read the rest. When they click the link they land on the page I built earlier. My goal is to provide good information, and hopefully get the click on my Adsense ads. This income typically does not cover all the costs of advertising, but is certainly helps.
Once the sales page is complete I do a broadcast email telling them about it, and if all goes right, the sales start to roll in!
This sequence begins to build trust with my members. The last time I did this I had about 500 people on the list by the time the sales page was complete for the actual product. When it was complete I did a broadcast email, and sold 10 products within 24 hours - covered my advertising expenses completely and made a fair profit to boot.
Once the sales page is live, I always test to see if the name squeeze page or direct to sales letter is the more profitable route to take. On the direct to sale page option - I always have a subscription form for the course that I put together in the pre-launch phase.
So there you have it - my "secret" pre-launch formula! If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment.

Well, I've just finished reading your entire blog and I'm impressed. It's fun to see a man of action...in action...You've got a nice strategy there, I might steal a little bit of it ;)
Keep on going from 166$ in August to 2000+$ in April. Good stuff.
I'll be watching from now on :)

Thanks for the great tip Bootstrapper!
I've been thinking about offering an ebook from my eBay store on my thank you page but haven't done so yet.
After reading your blog...I'm going to modify that page tonight!
