I have really been looking at my current web strategy, which relies heavily on PPC advertising and list building. I really am starting to get uncomfortable about not have any major sites that focus on organic SEO traffic. So I started looking around for some ideas.
While surfing around, I stumbled upon JustAnswer.com - and spent a couple of days off and on checking out how the site works. They have a pretty slick script that allow screened "experts" to answer user supplied questions. The revenue is then split with the "expert".
I have a LARGE list of subscribers in the dog owner niche. I began to think about how I could use this list to generate a site that allows users to generate a portion of the content.
So I set up a page that allows dog owners to submit a question. They have two options - free questions will get answered no sooner than 7-14 days OR paid ($7.00) questions will get answered in 24 hours.
So I sent an email to a VERY small segment of my dog owner list - and the questions began coming in.
Suprisingly the first question submitted was a paid question - $7.00 in the bank! I then researched the question at Google, and supplied a very thorough response - total time about 30 minutes. I just got paid to write an article!
In 24 hours the site generated 32 questions. I quickly set-up a Wordpress blog on the site and began entering all the questions as posts. So almost immediately I have a 32 page site (and growing) with free content that was 100% user supplied. But remember, all but one of the questions were to be answered for free.....
So at the bottom of each post (question) I put a note that gives the EARLIEST date that the question would be answered - along with a Paypal link where they could pay to get the answer in 24 hours.
I also was sure to allow comments - and one of the visitors has already posted some feedback to one of the questions.
When they submit a question they are also added to my autoresponder over at Aweber. So I am following with them encouraging them to both purchase the answer option and visit the blog and freely help answer questions.
It is still early to give any results - other than the fact that I have a growing site, with some of the content contributed by users. It will also force me to write, and generate my own content. The other benefit the search engines should love is that the content changes frequently. First the question gets posted, then a week or two later, the answer to the question will get added to the post. From my experience here at Bootstrappernotes.com - I have really seen the power of a site that grows - most of these pages are indexed in hours.
I could see this site growing to hundreds of quality pages over the next year. To free up my time, I could hire someone to answer the questions. I could also have some custom scripting for Wordpress done to eliminate all the cutting and pasting I am now doing.
As the list grows, so will opportunities to promote products as an affiliate, and my own products. The blog is not yet indexed by Google, although I have installed a Google site maps plug-in and added it to my Google accounts. Of course Adsense is also running on the blog - it is pretty "in your face" now, but I will be toning it down shortly.
The other thing I am going to do is submit two of the questions/answers to Ezinearticles per week as articles. This should start to generate some good incoming links over the next several months.
Dreaming bigger....at some point I could compile the questions and answers into a "365 Dog Questions" book or ebook - you never know.....
I would love to hear any other ideas you might have on what I could do with this site. Shoot me a comment!
As usual I will keep you posted on the progress.....
